Looking to maintain early-season momentum, the Cincinnati Reds returned home Tuesday night to face the San Francisco Giants intent on tightening the series early.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings before Cincinnati broke through in the third, when Spencer Steer drove his third home run of the season to center field. The momentum carried into the fourth, as rookie sensation Sal Stewart followed with a home run to right—his fifth of the season—pushing the Reds ahead 2-0.

San Francisco found a response in the fifth, as Willy Adames lifted a solo home run to center field to cut the deficit to 2–1. With two outs and a runner on second in the sixth, the Giants threatened, but Heliot Ramos grounded out to Elly De La Cruz to end the inning. Reds sent out Graham Ashcraft in the seventh to make quick work of the inning with one groundout and two strikeouts throwing sharp moving sliders. Ashcraft continues to stay consistent and precise.

San Francisco found a late opportunity in the eighth with a base hit from Luis Arraez, bringing the tying run to the plate in Matt Chapman, but the threat was quickly erased as Elly De La Cruz fielded a ground ball, firing to second and on to first to turn a double play.

Reds closer Emilio Pagán shut down the Giants’ late push, recording a flyout to center field to end the game and secure the first win of the series for Cincinnati. Pagán appeared to wince on his final pitch and walked off the mound carefully. Postgame reports indicated no structural damage, and he was cleared of injury.

The victory brought the Reds to 8-8 on the season, continuing to build early rhythm as they work back toward consistency.
